Der Unfallmeldedienst (UMD) ist ein automatisches GPS- und mobilfunkbasiertes Notrufsystem innerhalb Deutschlands für Autofahrer. Der UMD erkennt eine Kollision des Pkw sowie die Stärke des Aufpralls und meldet schwere Unfälle automatisch an eine Notruf-Zentrale. Pannen sowie Blech- und Bagatellschäden können manuell gemeldet werden. Eine Datenübermittlung findet nur nach einer automatischen oder manuellen Meldung statt (kein Tracking).Der Unfallmeldedienst der SIGNAL IDUNA ist eine kostenlose Service-Leistung der SIGNAL IDUNA – exklusiv für SIGNAL IDUNA-Versicherte mit einer Auto-Versicherung und einem Schutzbrief bei der SIGNAL IDUNA Gruppe. Alternativ kann der Schutzbrief auch bei dem ARCD Auto- und Reiseclub Deutschland e. V. bestehen.Kernstück des UMD ist die Unfallmeldeeinheit (Unfallmeldestecker und Unfallmelde-App). Der UMD kann in nahezu jedem Pkw eingesetzt werden. Erforderlich ist eine 12V-Steckdose im Pkw für den Unfallmeldestecker und ein Smartphone (Android ab Version 4.3 und Bluetooth) mit installierter Unfallmelde-App. Nutzer, die ein Smartphone mit Android < v4.3 nutzen, können die App mit dem Smartphone leider nicht nutzen. Nutzer, die ein Smartphone mit Android v4.3 - v5.0 nutzen, müssen ein App-Update auf die aktuelle Version durchzuführen.Beschleunigungssensoren im Unfallmeldestecker können einen Unfall bzw. einen Aufprall und die Stärke des Aufpralls erfassen. Erfasst der Unfallmeldestecker einen Aufprall, sendet er diese Information an das Smartphone. Das Smartphone meldet automatisch den Unfall, die aktuelle Position des Fahrzeugs und die letzte Fahrtrichtung mithilfe der Unfallmelde-App an eine Notruf-Zentrale. Im Falle eines schweren Unfalls leitet die Notruf-Zentrale sofort Rettungsmaßnahmen ein.
